Nocturne #4 – Overthinker

What happens when a thinker's brain turns into a 24/7 functioning film studio every night? This is a journey to a chaotic set, where the sound department analyzes every pause, and screenwriters create a multi-genre epic from one strange look. This is the story of my personal, exclusive film festival, where I am the director, the critic, and the sole audience.

Every evening, when the day officially clocks out, my brain doesn’t just switch to “sleep mode”; it opens its own, fully-staffed, 24/7 film studio. This isn’t just a processor; it’s a chaotic but incredibly productive movie set.

The Sound Department immediately gets to work, analyzing the day’s dialogues.

— Why did they say “fine” and not “great”?

— What was hiding in that three-second pause?

— Wasn’t their vocal tone about 0.5 decibels lower than usual?

Every word, every cough, and every intonation goes through a detailed audio analysis, as if I’m mixing the final cut for the Grammys.

Meanwhile, the Visual Effects team (also me) starts editing the day’s scenes. Some simple moment, like grabbing a coffee, is put in slow-motion, the colors are re-graded, dramatic angles are added, and, of course, the right score is laid underneath. Sometimes it turns out that the scene of my morning coffee looks like the trailer for a Christopher Nolan film.

But the most active place is the Writers’ Room. They’ll take one, completely insignificant detail — say, a stranger gave me a weird look — and spin a dozen different scripts from it:

  1. Comedy: “I probably had ketchup on my face.”
  2. Thriller: “They’re a secret agent, and I’m unknowingly involved in their mission.”
  3. Existential Drama: “Their gaze was a reflection of the universe’s inherent futility.”
  4. Sci-Fi: “They’re from the future and are trying to signal that I’m the one who has to save humanity.”

And you know what the most interesting part is? I actually enjoy this chaos. It’s my own private, exclusive film festival, where every film is a masterpiece, the critics (me) are raving, and the audience (also me) is perfectly happy.

This isn’t just thinking; it’s a sport for the mind. A chaotic, mental workout that leaves you pleasantly exhausted. Each analyzed pause, each rewritten scenario, is like one more rep in the gym of self-awareness. You’re not just making movies here; you’re training to understand yourself.

So, for me, solitude and getting lost in my thoughts isn’t just “thinking” — it’s producing a full-length feature film. And things to think about? Oh, I’ve got plenty of those; the scripts never run out… Plus, the popcorn is free, though completely imaginary.

So let that studio of yours keep running. Who knows, maybe the next masterpiece is being edited right now.
