Nocturne #22 – Humor: My Armor

In this half-dream state, I speak of humor — my own kind of ‘magic sauce’ that makes absurd reality bearable. It’s a reflection on how laughter and self-irony help me face challenges and find a spark of light even in the darkest corners.

Today, as I sit on life’s absurd train and watch this chaos through the window, I think: What the hell are we doing in this grumbling world if not for a little bit of humor? Humor is that magic sauce that spices up bland reality. It’s my inner clown, always ready to flip the script on the next adventure, turning tragedy into comedy.

Right now, I’m lounging comfortably on my sofa, comfortably tapping words onto my smartphone screen, and I can even hear my own voice:

— Zurab, I think you’re actually losing it! — And then I realize, yeah, it’s true — I’m losing it, but hey, being able to fly is pretty damn cool, right? Absolutely!

Humor helps me avoid drowning in the daily routine and hold onto that little bit of oxygen that keeps my lungs alive.

Humor is a talent that adds a new dimension to intellect. Today, in the endless stream of information, there’s a shortage of good laughter because it’s difficult to navigate the tangled webs of logic and pinpoint that exact spot that activates the brain’s prefrontal cortex and makes us burst out laughing. (I Googled ‘prefrontal cortex’ just now to sound more intellectual (oh, the state of me…))

I love self-irony. A person who laughs at themselves is one who stands vulnerable before the world and isn’t afraid. Such people are interesting, and interacting with them is a real pleasure.

Humor isn’t just laughter. It’s a philosophy, a perspective on life that helps me find light in the darkest moments. It allows me to look at problems from a different angle, see their absurdity, and find the strength to overcome them.

It’s like my inner soldier, helping me cope with this cruel world. When life throws a heavy boulder onto my shoulder, humor gives me the strength to stand up and say: “You damn boulder! Is that all you’ve got? Go on, weigh me down, I’ll still crack a joke about it!”

So, let’s smile, laugh at ourselves and with each other, and let humor rescue us from this boring, chaotic world. Because, as they say, laughter prolongs life. And who knows, maybe it’s really true…
