Nocturne #27 – Waves of Expectation

I always hope life holds a special script for me, but reality often brings waves of disappointment, like cheap headphones from TEMU. Maybe the key isn't just balancing hope and reality, but actively building a bridge between them through pragmatic action, because waiting changes nothing.

I always have this expectation that life will bring me something special. As if, somewhere, tucked away in a corner, there’s a desired script waiting just for me, destined to be fulfilled. Every new project, new relationship, or new day fills me with hope that everything will turn out for the better.

But reality often goes in a different direction. Face to face with reality, expectations scatter like dreams upon waking. This disappointment feels like a wave constantly pushing me back to shore whenever I try to swim deeper into the sea. Sometimes I think I shouldn’t just wait for this wave, but swim against it, do something. But often, I lack the strength. It all resembles headphones ordered from TEMU – you have hope at first, but soon realize the quality is poor, leaving you disappointed once again.

I wonder, maybe the problem lies precisely in the expectations? Perhaps they create the illusions that later break our hearts? But how can one live without hope? After all, we are human. Besides, that longed-for success, that dance of endorphins we anticipate so eagerly, doesn’t just arrive on its own. Mere desire brings nothing.

Perhaps the solution is finding a balance between expectations and reality. But this balance doesn’t mean passive acceptance. Maybe it’s better if expectations aren’t obstacles, but rather motivation that compels us to act pragmatically. We ourselves must build the bridge between hope and reality. We must act, because simply waiting for that “special script” is just a waste of time. The key is not to forget that the outcome won’t always depend on us. Our job is to try, to act; the rest… the rest is life’s game.

Exhausted by these thoughts, I lie in bed trying to fall asleep peacefully. I know tomorrow is a new day, with new opportunities and, possibly, new disappointments. But this is life, and I’m learning to accept it as it is – incomparable, unpredictable, and yet beautiful in its unpredictability. However, along with this acceptance, I’m also learning that tomorrow will only be different if I change something today.
